Abstract

Any discussion of the problems and status of rural education' in the United States involves the educational opportunities of about 13,000,000 pupils or about half of the total public school enrolment in the Nation. Rural education in the 14 Southern States2 involves 52 percent of the Nation's rural children 5 to 17 years old. In these States there are 57 percent of the Nation's rural farm children and 37 percent of the rural non-farm children.
