Present situation and measures of ecological environment protection in Weizhou Island, China

Abstract

To find out the types of coastal pollutants and establish the environmental conservation measures for the Weizhou Island in Beihai, Guangxi, the author conducted a field survey to find out the coastal garbage type and proportion and found that the pollutants were foam, plastic bags, broken bricks, wood chips, fibers, rags, and metal fragments. Through analysis, the main pollutants were found to be foam and plastic bags, which account for solid pollutants volume 45% and 40%, respectively. Tracing the sources of these pollutants, it is considered that these are affected by human activities. Therefore, the author puts forward a series of environmental protection measures, strengthening legislation, strengthening publicity, using degradable plastic bags, sorting and transporting garbage out of the island, etc.
