Abstract

In this paper I have tried to give a general idea of the opposing tendencies obtaining in the grouping of the Aboriginal languages of America. It is not destined to enlighten Americanists, who will scarcely learn anything new from it, but rather to draw the attention of European linguists to some problems their American colleagues are confronted with.
