Abstract

With the following article I intend to make explicit some of the patristic sources of Pope Francis' Mariology. It may be useful to reflect on where the Latin American Pope speaks from when he speaks about Mary, especially in relation to her place in salvation history. We will see that he presents Mary first and foremost as a woman, mother and disciple on the basis of the data of Sacred Scripture and Tradition. Moreover, we will note that he does not fail to follow fundamentally the orientations of the Second Vatican Council and those of his predecessors. Pope Francis offers a contribution to the theology of Mary in the wisdom of continuity, but with the strong imprint of the service she must render to the faith of the People of God.
