Abstract

Evaluation of the association between the presence of third molars and various clinical periodontal measures on selective populations have indicated that the presence of a third molar may be a risk factor for periodontal disease. However, none of the selective populations have been representative of the US population. The purpose of this study is to analyze data from a US population study, National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2009-2010, to assess the relationship between the presence or absence of visible third molars and periodontal outcomes.
