Abstract

A peripheral reticulum has been observed in bundle sheath cell chloroplasts of the C 4 plant, Zea mays , which fix CO 2 via the Calvin cycle. This finding suggests that chloroplast peripheral reticulum is not specifically associated with enzymes of the C 4 -dicarboxylic acid photosynthesis pathway.
