Abstract
<i>To the Editor.</i>—The article entitled "Wound Contraction and Fibrocontractive Disorders" by Ariyan et al published in theArchives(113:1034-1046, 1978) has just come to my attention. The observations on the presence of myofibroblasts in different fibrocontractive disorders is very interesting and confirm similar studies made at the University of Geneva by Dr Gabbiani and myself. As was seen in my article that appeared in<i>Médecine et Hygiene,</i><sup>1</sup>the presence of myofibroblasts in Peyronie's disease had been observed in 1974 and the finding was published for the first time in 1976. This publication has been quoted twice since then in American journals: once in the<i>International Review of Cytology,</i><sup>2</sup>and once in<i>Clinics in Plastic Surgery.</i><sup>3</sup> Since the article in the<i>Archives</i>appears under the heading "Original Articles" and mentions that "this is the first report identifying myofibroblasts in the plaque of Peyronie's disease," I thought you would
