Abstract

We have previously shown that Intestinal mucosa secretes CCL2 into the lumen during endotoxemia and that CCL2 may in part mediate reduced intestinal motility, but the mechanism for this is unknown. CCL2 acts by binding to CCR2. CCR2 is known to be expressed on leukocyte subsets including monocytes, T cells and NK cells, as well as vascular smooth muscle cells. Our hypothesis was that CCR2 may be present on intestinal epithelium and that CCL2 may be acting binding these receptors within the gut lumen.
