Abstract
THE existence of a penetrating component in extensive atmospheric showers has been investigated by several workers1, using different methods. Results obtained with cloud-chambers2 do not seem to justify a final conclusion. Cocconi and co-workers3, using counters, decided in favour of the presence of meson showers simultaneous with extensive showers ; more recently, Rogozinski4, using counters driving neon lamps, concludes that mesons are probably associated with extensive showers.
