Abstract
AbstractIn this article–dialogue, Marie-Anne Chidiac and Sally Denham-Vaughan review the concept of presence with reference to a chapter on the topic by Edwin C. Nevis (1987) and another article by Alan Cohen (2017). Similarities and differences between the formulations employed by these two writers are discussed and the implications for Gestalt praxis and wider existential issues addressed. In particular, the framing of presence as a concept with epistemological, ontological, and ethical dimensions is emphasised. These perspectives are compared with the authors' own view of presence as the foundational awareness process that underpins and informs relational and dialogic Self–Other organisation.
