Abstract

Chemistry is a very vast science covering a range of topics that intertwine and appear in different forms in the Brazilian High School Examination (ENEM). One of its aspects is chemistry applied to the food sector. The objective of this paper was to detect how issues involving food were being addressed in ENEM and the degree of importance within the student's reality. A documentary survey represented by the ENEM tests was used as a research instrument in order to perceive their frequency, what the issues and food classifications involved were about, in the years 2009 to 2019, comprising the period before the COVID-19 pandemic. About 31 questions were found with chemistry content related to food, mainly food, 12 questions in physical chemistry and an essay involving alcoholic beverages. Concluded that foods are present in ENEM associated with important themes and contents in chemistry.
