Abstract

Lifestyle measures are an important tool in high blood pressure management and should be tailored for each individual. They are used to lower blood pressure (reduction of alcohol consumption and salt intake, increased physical activity, weight loss) and to address other risk factors (smoking, hyperlipidemia, diabetes…). Lifestyle measures should be instituted as soon as possible and may reduce the need for antihypertensive treatment. The main difficulty is certainly to convince asymptomatic patients to accept these recommendations.
