Abstract

This chapter analyses the prepositional phrases na+PR, s+GEN and na+ACC. It is explained that these prepositional phases are associated with different notions, including those of Support, Pressure, Contact, Surface and Perceptual accessibility, as well as a static Location (na+PR), Source (s+GEN) and Goal (na+ACC). However, the main focus of the chapter is on the semantic extensions that are based on the metaphorical mapping from the source domains of Support, Pressure, Source and Goal. In addition to patterns of semantic extensions, the chapter also presents examples of the use of na+PR, s+GEN and na+ACC that are syntactic borrowings from other languages.
