Abstract

Although it is not, of course, possible to draw a sharp demarcation between high, medium and low pressure air, in the following pages pressures below 75 cm water gauge (30 inches W.G.), will be called low pressures, those of 75 cm water gauge up to one half atmosphere (7 Ibs/sq. inch) medium pressures and those from one half atmosphere onwards, high pressures. This division has been chosen because the machines used for compressing the air may be: 1) Ordinary open or centrifugal fans for low pressure. 2) So-called “positive pressure blowers” for medium pressure and, 3) Piston compressors or multiple turbo-compressors for higher pressures.
