Abstract

This study aimed to find out the level of preparedness of MSU-Maguindanao Integrated Laboratory Science High School Students for Science-oriented program. The study used a descriptive survey method of research. Preparedness of students for Science-oriented program was based on the following parameters: mental ability, academic performance (Science, English, and Mathematics), and study habits. The respondents of the study were the fourth year high school students of MSU-Maguindanao. Fourth-year students have only 2 sections. The first section has 32 students while the second section has 34 students. There are a total of 66 students. Findings show that more than 50 percent of the students hold the average and high average level of mental ability. With regard to their academic performance, none of the respondents have reached a Very good and good level of academic performance in English and Mathematics areas. However, more than 50 percent of the total respondents performed good in Science. And generally, the respondents possess good or desirable study habits. Thus findings of the study show that Mental Ability, Academic Performance in English, Science, and Mathematics and study habits are good indicators on the preparedness of students for Science–oriented programs. General Point Average of the students is highly correlated with the level of preparedness of students and preparedness of MSU-Maguindanao ILSHS students for Science-oriented program is at an average level.
