Abstract
PORTLAND, Ore. — When natural disasters or wars strike students’ home countries, support from their college or university and the surrounding community is critical. Campus administrators have addressed challenges for students from China when the COVID‐19 pandemic started, those whose homes were impacted by earthquakes in Nepal and Haiti, and now those from Ukraine whose lives are disrupted by the war, said Julia Funaki. And domestic students can face upheaval as well, such as after Hurricane Katrina, she added. Funaki, Associate Director at the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers, spoke at the organization's annual conference, along with Chris Adams, Associate Director of International Admissions Operations at Indiana University, Bloomington.
