Abstract
Whether you call them critical incident response or emergency action plans, your athletics department must prepare to address all types of catastrophic injuries involving multiple casualties caused by natural and man‐made incidents, from active shooters to bombings and earthquakes to fires. An all‐hazards approach can reduce risk and liability in most situations. To help your department prepare, follow these eight steps recommended by Ray Castle, Ph.D., LAT, ATC, NREMT, Program Director for Athletic Training at Louisiana State University, during a recent virtual presentation hosted by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association:
