Abstract

Hydrogen plasma–metal reaction method has been used to produce titanium hydride and magnesium ultrafine particles (UFPs) with mean particle size of 22 and 905 nm, respectively. Structures and particle features were investigated by XRD, SEM, TEM, BET gas adsorption and Tg-DTA. It was found that titanium hydride UFPs had spherical shape and planar shape of Mg UFPs was hexagon. The oxidation resistance of Mg UFPs was higher than that of titanium hydride UFPs. The formation mechanisms of titanium hydride and magnesium UFPs were discussed.
