Abstract

Whether a utility's supply source is groundwater or surface water, drought may occur, so the sinking of a second well should be considered. Utilities should also be aware of debris accumulation or silting of streams and lakes. Intakes on navigable waterways should be clearly marked so water vehicles do not hit them. Testing for pollutants should be part of a regular program of maintenance. Machinery failures can also occur, so preventive maintenance is advised.
