Abstract

A new compound [Gd(H2O)4(HIA)2(NO3)](2NO3) (1; HIA is isonicotinic acid) is reported. The Gd3+ cation is coordinated by eight oxygen atoms and exhibit a square antiprismatic GdO8 geometry. A three-dimensional (3-D) supramolecular framework is formed by hydrogen bond interactions. The photoluminescence absorption peak is ascribed to the 8S7/2→6I J , while the photoluminescence emission peaks are originated from the characteristic emission of the 6P5/2→8S7/2 and 6P7/2→8S7/2 transitions of Gd3+ ions. A solid-state UV/Vis diffuse reflectance spectrum reveals that it shows a wide optical band gap of 3.17 eV. A new gadolinium compound is reported. It features a 3-D supramolecular framework formed by hydrogen bond interactions. The photoluminescence absorption peak is ascribed to the 8S7/2→6I J , while the emission is originated from the characteristic emission of the 6P5/2→8S7/2 and 6P7/2→8S7/2 transitions of the Gd3+ ion. It possesses a wide optical band gap of 3.17 eV.
