Abstract

The synthesis of PFSA-Ag colloid using PFSA as a stabilizer was investigated thoroughly for the first time. The PFSA-Ag colloid synthesized at 140 ºC, 4 h, PFSA/AgNO3 ratio = 1/0.3, showed an excellent stability even after a two-month storage. Afterwards, PFSA-Ag colloid coated carbon electrode was fabricated as an electrochemical sensor for 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) determination. A quasi-reversible redox behavior of 4-NP was observed on the electrode, which is attributed to the effect of Ag NPs and PFSA. Moreover, the sensitivity of PFSA-Ag/carbon electrode was proportional to the content of Ag NPs. Under the optimum conditions, the detection limit of 4-NP measured by the DPV method was 0.015 μM, which is close to the best report in the literature adopting the same method. In addition, the fabricated sensor showed a high repeatability evaluated in term of relative standard deviation (2.1 %) and a long-term good stability (87 % of its original response after one month). This sensor was further applied to determine 4-NP in real water samples, a good recovery (99 % in tap water, above 96 % in river water) was obtained.
