Abstract

ABSTRACTThe super-hydrophobic surface was successfully prepared on the Al–Mg alloy substrate by electrochemical etching in neutral NaCl solution and low surface energy modification. Complex micro-structures and fluoroalkylsilane played important roles in the formation of super-hydrophobic surfaces. Scanning electron microscopy images, energy dispersive spectroscopy and contact angle measurement were performed to characterise the morphological features, chemical composition and wettability of the prepared surfaces. Surface wetting changes, reaction mechanisms and the effect of current density on morphology were also analysed in detail. The stability, friction and electrochemical tests showed that the prepared surfaces had excellent corrosion resistance and abrasion resistance.
