Abstract

Silverized aromatic polysulfonamide (PSA) fibers were prepared through a novel chlorine-aided silver activation system followed by electroless nanoplating in the present work. The Ag/AgCl interfacial layer was first introduced to the fiber surface via successive immersion in NaClO-HCl solution, AgNO3 solution, and NaBH4 solution, whose activating and anchoring abilities were then employed to coat an adhesive and uniform silver layer onto PSA fibers by electroless nanoplating. The obtained silverized PSA fibers possessed high electroconductivity, minor paramagnetism, excellent electromagnetic shielding effectiveness, outstanding tensile property, and thermostability, which were also resistant against sonication and exhibited good electroconductivity after exposure in air for half a year.
