Abstract

C60 fullerene in carbon disulfide solution can be easily nitrated with dinitrogen tetroxide to a mixture of nitroproducts having on average four nitro group per fullerene molecule. The structure of the products was established on the basis of the weight increase undergone by the starting molecule, by Electronic, FT-IR and C-NMR spectroscopy.
