Abstract
A routine method for producing perforated films is described which gives reliable and reproducible results. By varying the glycerol content in a polyvinylformal/chloroform-glycerol emulsion and obtaining optimum dispersion by means by ultrasonic treatment, quite uniform layers with hole sizes between 0.05 and 5μm can be obtained. A statistical analysis of the hole size distribution showed distinct maxima which were gradually shifted to larger hole sizes with increasing glycerol concentrations. A method is also descibed which influences the geometry of the hole arrangement such that the formation of ‘hole avenues’, which are of considerable advantage for working with minimal beam exposure techniques, is favoured.
