Abstract

The results of studies of the interaction of FeTi alloys in an NH 3 atmosphere under mechanical alloying are reported. It was found that mechanical alloying in an NH 3 atmosphere ensures the formation of metastable phases. Annealing of the metastable phases, depending on their nitrogen content, results in the formation of intermetallic compounds or nitrides. The formation of nitrides in FeTi alloys ensures the preservation of fine ferrite grains and high hardness after 2 h of treatment at a temperature of 1563 K.
