Abstract

High energy milling (HEM) was used for preparation of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) embedded in copper composite powders and cut off MWCNTs. The results show that, the MWCNTs can be cut off, the length of MWCNTs is 0.1–2 μm after wet ball milling for 1 h and the structure of the MWCNTs isn’t damaged. The MWCNTs/Cu composite powders could also be prepared by HEM. MWCNTs are uniformly dispersed in composite powders under the milling parameters as follows: ball/powder weight ratio 10:1, rotational speed 700/900 rpm, milling time 2 h, MWCNTs content 3 wt%. A good adhesion of CNTs in copper matrix was obtained and revealed by means of transmission electron microscope (TEM).
