Abstract

Abstract In this study, POSS modified methacrylated polyglycidol oligomers (POSS-MPG) were synthesized using different amount of glycidyl POSS and glycidyl methacrylate. The structures of oligomers were characterized by FT-IR and 1 H NMR. Hybrid nanocomposite formulations were prepared by mixing POSS-MPG, photoinitiator (Irg-184 and Irg-819), cross linker (trimethylolpropane triacrylate) and AgNO 3 . The physical and mechanical properties of nanocomposites such as gel content, solvent resistance and tensile tests were examined. In addition, the thermal behavior of coatings was evaluated. Due to UV exposure methacrylic group were cross linked and silver ions were reduced to stable nanoparticles. By this way, during UV curing process of the formulations AgNPs were also introduced into nanocomposites. The formation of silver nanoparticles was verified by FTIR spectrum and TEM images. The antibacterial activity of the modified glasses was also investigated against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
