Abstract

Polydiacetylene Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films of high degree of orientational order have been produced by means of a heat treatment of monomer monolayers on the water surface, followed by the in situ polymerization and a careful transfer of the desired portion onto a glass substrate. A three-dimensional parameter space, comprising the heating power, the heating duration and the surface pressure, was investigated for the best fabrication condition. A dichroic ratio as high as 130 was achieved.
