Abstract

1. The possibility has been demonstrated of obtaining parts from carbides, borides, and silicides of refractory metals by the reduction of oxides (with the formation of volatile reduction products-CO, B2O2 and SiO) with the simultaneous sintering of the resulting active particles of the refractory compounds. 2. A study was made of the production of high-porosity parts (up to 70–72% porosity) from the chromium carbide Cr3C2 during the actual formation of this carbide by the reduction of chromium oxide with carbon black.
