Abstract

Glass-like carbon (GLC) is an agranular carbon material with a pseudo-glass-like appearance on the surface and fractured face. In this study, GLCs with numerous micrometer-sized pores were prepared by mixing thermosetting resins with two sizes of thermoplastic microbeads. For these GLCs, the carbonization yields and apparent densities decreased when they were mixed with microbeads. SEM results suggested that the surfaces and fracture faces of GLCs mixed with small beads possess smaller pores compared to those prepared with large beads. The electrical resistances of GLCs with small beads heat-treated at 1000 ℃ or above were almost unchanged compared to those of the neat GLCs.
