Abstract

The nucleolytic activities from the keratinous sponge Verongia aerophoba are prepared by extraction with acetate buffer and subsequent chromatography on Sephadex, hydroxyapaptite, and phosphocellulose. The enzyme preparation is subjected to micro-disc electrophoresis showing just one nucleolytic activity. The hydrolysis products are identified by high-pressure liquid anion-exchange chromatography as 3'-mononucleotides.
