Abstract

AbstractAs mentioned in Chap. 1, quantum memories based on cold atomic ensembles are one of the best physical systems for constructing quantum networks. In order to realize high-performance quantum memories based on the cold atomic ensembles, a very basic premise is to prepare the cold atomic ensembles. It requires capturing the atoms in a high vacuum, reducing their speed, and finally trapping them in a specific area, thus to ensure that the number and density of the trapped atoms are sufficient for further experiments. In this chapter, I will mainly introduce the vacuum, lasers, magneto-optical trap, measurements of cold atomic density and temperature involved in the preparation of the cold atoms during the experiments.
