Abstract

It is known that dry smears do not preserve all blood elements and the varieties destroyed by this method increase in descending to lower animals. in Amphibia—to which the present communication applies in particular—spindle cells (thrombocytes) and later basophils invariably disintegrate, other elements suffering more or less damage due to contact with air and the strain on the relatively liquid cells.
