Abstract

The availability of partial-melt process(PMP) in enhancing the densification and the directional grain-alignment was investigated in Ag-sheathed Bi-Pb-Sr-Ca-Cu-O tapes prepared by the powder-in-tube method. The PMP was employed after the Bi-2223 phase was fully formed. The results indicated that the PMP resulted in a dense, layer-like textured micromorphology in a short range order and little grain-texturing in a long range order, resulting in a low Jc. An attempt to extend the locally developed, dense and layer-like structure to a long range order was made by employing the PMP after obtaining a well-textured morphology by using a repetition of the combined process of rolling and sintering. It seemed, however, that the PMP destroyed the previously-made textured morphology.
