Abstract

AlSi30Cu5 coating was prepared on the 6061 aluminum alloy by plasma spraying technology. The results showed that the phases were mainly α-Al, β-Si, and θ-Al2Cu. The size of the β-Si in the powder and coating was 3.51 μm and 2.06 μm respectively, that was, the β-Si in the coating was refined. The average hardness of the coating was 280 HV0.2, which was significantly higher that of the substrate (110 HV0.2). The wear rate of the coating was only 20 % of the substrate. Therefore, AlSi30Cu5 coating prepared by plasma spraying can provide effectively wear protection for the 6061 aluminum alloy. It is beneficial for promoting the further application and development of aluminum alloys.
