Abstract

Telechelic methyl methacrylate oligomers with α-phenyl ketone and ω-carboxylic acid end groups have been prepared by the ozonolysis of statistical copolymers of methyl methacrylate and phenylacetylene. The oligomers are exclusively α-phenyl ketone- and ω-carboxylate-ended, indicating that the incorporation of phenylacetylene in the parent copolymer is regiospecific. The oligomers have number-average molecular weights ranging from 1600 to 4500 (controlled by the composition of the copolymers from which they were prepared) and polydispersities of less than 2
