Abstract
Adsorbent material has been prepared using the petroleum refinery wastewater treatment sludge. The prepared adsorbent has high macroporosity and oil sorption capacity and is 100% buoyant in water. The adsorbency of the adsorbent reached 11.8 g of crude oil per gram of adsorbent. The adsorbent has good oleophylicity and hydrophobicity. According to the ASTM (American Standard of Testing Materials) standard, the adsorbent is good in the parameters such as adsorbency. Moreover, the adsorbed oil may be recovered and the adsorbent may be recycled by means of vacuum‐pumping.
