Abstract

This paper was to synthesize a photocatalytic TiO2/ZnTiO3 coating on glazed ceramic tiles by the sol–gel method and subsequent thermal treatment. The structural and morphological properties were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The result reveals that the photocatalytic coating is composed of anatase TiO2 and hexagonal ZnTiO3. The average particle size of the anatase TiO2/ZnTiO3 is about 50nm. In addition, the photocatalytic performance was carried out by the decomposition of methylene blue solution under UV light irradiation. The anatase TiO2/ZnTiO3 coating exhibits higher photocatalytic activity than that of pure anatase TiO2 coating and rutile TiO2/ZnTiO3 coating.
