Abstract

Based on the thermodynamic calculations, a novel dual graded WC–Co–Ti(C, N)–ZrC–HfC cemented carbides was designed and prepared by introducing the combination of spinodal decomposition and denitrification process. The dual graded structures of the cemented carbides have a smooth fcc-rich surface and toughness fcc-free interlayer, which can improve the coating adhesion and inhibit the cracks propagation. Microstructure characterizations and composition distributions elucidated the principle of multi-factors diffusion migration and the formation mechanism of dual structure graded layers.
