Abstract

Abstract Titanium dioxide powders with different crystalline forms were prepared from a simple aqueous peroxo route. Amorphous, nanocrystalline and crystalline TiO 2 phases were obtained by heat-treating the precursor, Ti–peroxo complex, at different temperatures. The TiO 2 powders were characterized by physical and electrochemical methods in a 1 M LiClO 4 /propylene carbonate solution for the anode in a lithium ion battery. A maximum reversible discharge capacity of 140 mA h g −1 was observed for the nano-crystalline titanium dioxide. The effect of heat-treatment temperature on the crystallinity and consequently on the storage capacity of TiO 2 has been briefly discussed.
