Abstract
A variety of 2-arylthio-N-alkylmaleimides were prepared from 2-arylthio-N-alkylsuccinimides. We have screened for antimicrobial activity of these compounds, and examined an effect of substituents of benzene ring and N-alkylchains against antimicrobial activity. Almost all these compounds showed good inhibitory effect against B. substilis and yeast. Especially, 2-phenylthio N-lower alkyl-maleimides showed an excellent activity against Gram-positive bacteria, fungi and yeasts.
