Abstract

Cell-derived membrane vesicles provide a unique means of isolating native lipids and proteins in the cell membrane. Chemical and mechanical perturbation methods have both been employed to create cell-derived vesicles. Chemically induced giant plasma membrane vesicles have been used to understand membrane organization. Mechanically induced cell membrane vesicles have been investigated as means of presenting specific proteins of interest for potential therapeutic use. However, quantitative investigations of how these methods bias the composition of the isolated membrane are limited.
