Abstract
The compound La (Ga,Na)Ga 2S 14 is obtained by action of La 2S 3 over glasses (Ga 2S 3-Na 2S) at 1100°C and quenched in water. It is hexagonal with a = 10.158(6) and c = 6.059(2) A ̊ . Space group P6 3 and Z = 1. The structure has been solved. R = 0.048 for 712 reflections. This structure is of A 6B 2C 2X 14 type. The La (A site) atoms are surrounded by eight S atoms. The tetrahedral C site is occupied by Ga(1) atoms. The B site is fully occupied either by a Na atom or by Ga atom.
