Abstract

Oligomers of poly[4-4′( p-biphenylene) amide] were synthesized by electrochemical reduction of 4-4′dibromo[( parabiphenylene) amide] with a small amount of NiBr 2 bipyridine complex, in a one-compartment cell. Samples, characterized by i.r. spectroscopy, include about one bromine atom at the chain end as shown by fine analysis of i.r. spectra in the range of CH inplane deformation of 1–4 disubstituted benzene ring (1000–1020 cm −1).
