Abstract
Oligomers of poly[4-4′( p-biphenylene) amide] were synthesized by electrochemical reduction of 4-4′dibromo[( parabiphenylene) amide] with a small amount of NiBr 2 bipyridine complex, in a one-compartment cell. Samples, characterized by i.r. spectroscopy, include about one bromine atom at the chain end as shown by fine analysis of i.r. spectra in the range of CH inplane deformation of 1–4 disubstituted benzene ring (1000–1020 cm −1).
