Abstract

The rhenium compound SbRe2O6has been prepared by reaction of SbOReO4·2H2O with rhenium metal in a sealed silica tube. Its structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Crystal data: monoclinicC2/c,a=16.048(2) Å,b=4.920(1) Å,c=5.480(2) Å,β=91.90(2)°,V=432.4(2) Å3,Z=4,R(Rw)=0.028(0.028) for 560 reflections. The structure comprises Re2O6layers, which are slices of the rutile structure along the 101plane, and antimony atoms connecting the layers. The Re2O6layers contain pairs of ReO6octahedra sharing an edge and the Re–Re distance is 2.517(1) Å. SbRe2O6has ordered stacking of Re2O6layers in the sequence ABAB... . The electrical resistivity of SbRe2O6along thebcplane shows metallic behavior (2 μΩ-cm at 5 K and 61 μΩ-cm at 280 K).
