Abstract
Microfiltration membranes based on a polymeric composition of a high-density polyethylene and a filler were prepared by a process of thermomechanical deformation. The formation of the porous structure was attributed to the formation and the growth of crazes as well as the loss of adhesion of the filler to the polymeric matrix during the deformation process. It was found that ethanol flux through the membranes increases with increase in filler content and degree of deformation, and decreases with an increase in the temperature of the deformation process.
