Abstract

On the basis of investigation about impacts of reaction temperature, reaction time and metal element ratio on the formation of PtNi octahedral nanocrystal, the preparation conditions were optimized, and PtNi/C octahedral nanocrystal catalyst with highly active (111) facets as surface was successfully prepared by a facile one-pot surfactant-free solvothermal method. The as-prepared PtNi/C octahedral nanocrystal catalyst exhibits well-defined structure and enhanced ORR performance compared with the commercial Pt/C. Its mass activity and specific activity are 258.1 mA mgPt -1 and 711.0 μA cmPt -2, which are about 3.0 times and 4.4 times of Pt/C (JM), respectively. After 2000 cycles accelerated durability testing (ADT), its attenuation rates in electrochemically active surface area (ECSA) and mass activity at 0.9 V vs. RHE are 28.6% and 53.1%, respectively, which are less than those of Pt/C (JM) (38.9% and 64.6%), and its mass activity after 2000 cycles is still higher than the initial value of Pt/C (JM).
