Abstract

ABSTRACT One of the main challenges in the applications related to the environment is improving the biodegradability of polypropylene (PP). The incorporation of filler based on chitosan/ZnO nanocomposite (CZn), prepared via solution mixing technique at room temperature, into PP matrix holds promise in solving this issue. The tensile tests indicated the improved mechanical properties of PP/1CZn compared to PP, however increasing CZn content resulted in deteriorated mechanical properties. The soil burial test results after 3 months indicated the improved biodegradability of PP/CZn relative to PP and the significant impact of UV pretreatment on biodegradation rate.
