Abstract

Compact ceramic electrode materials based on the Ti–B–Fe system modified with nanosize particles of aluminum nitride (up to 15 wt.%) are prepared by SHS extrusion. The effect of additives on combustion characteristics of the system and also on structure and phase composition of the materials obtained is studied. Addition of aluminum nitride increases the content of boride and nitride phases in the final product. It is established that introduction of modifying nanosize aluminum nitride particles into an initial charge leads to boride and nitride phase grain refinement that in combination increase microhardness by 10% compared with unmodified specimens.
